Passage: Ephesians 4:4-6
Last week, we began to consider the second half of Paul’s letter to the Ephesian church and his exhortation to walk worthy, a statement that serves as the focus or “topic sentence” of the remainder of the letter. His initial concern is unity in the church, a unity created by the Spirit and maintained by us through the exercise of humility, gentleness, patience, and loving forbearance. This morning, we will see Paul move from the means of maintaining unity to the soil from which such unity grows. I trust we will find this timely, not only for our own personal application as a church, but to correct some serious misunderstandings as to what constitutes authentic Christian unity.
