Passage: Ephesians 6:1-4
We have moved into a section of Paul’s letter to the Ephesian church that scholars refer to as the “household codes.” Here, Paul applies the truths of the gospel to the everyday relationships of husbands and wives, parents and children, and masters and slaves (which we would equate with employer-employee relationships). In our present day culture, the family is in crisis. For the last two weeks we have looked in detail at marriage relationships. However, anyone who engages with children today can see that serious problems extend well beyond marriage. Children tend to resent authority. Parents often ignore and even abuse children. What does the gospel have to say to these issues, and how can we as Christians help to model healthy relationships between parents and children?
