Passage: Ephesians 5:3-7
As much as Paul has been focusing on the stark contrast between our old life before Christ and our new life after salvation, it should come as no surprise that he would have some sharp words for the rampant immorality of the Ephesian culture and the need for Christians to have nothing to do with such conduct. Nor is it surprising that he would make mention of the sin of idolatry in light of the religious environment in Ephesus. What is a bit unexpected is the type of conduct and speech that he considers to be idolatrous and the remedy he provides for such idolatry, namely, a heart filled with thanksgiving toward God.
