Passage: 1 John 3:7-10
We continue this morning in our Advent sermon series entitled The Gift where we are looking at the reasons for and the meaning of the Incarnation. As western Christians, we tend to be a little leery when speaking of the devil, afraid that we will be thought of as old-fashioned, closed-minded, or even ignorant by our contemporaries. Yet one of the reasons Scripture tells us that Jesus came to earth as a man was to destroy the works of the devil. How exactly did the Son’s incarnation lead to Satan’s defeat? What works have been destroyed? How can we as Christians appropriate that victory? These are some of the questions we will consider today as we look at the gift of victory we have been given through Jesus, the conqueror of Satan.
