Passage: Hebrews 9:11-14
In our contemporary culture, Christmas is nearly synonymous with gift-giving. Our nation’s economy is heavily dependent upon significant spending during this time of year, as evidenced by the commercials run on television with large bows on top of expensive cars. And yet, there is no amount of money that can match the worth of the true Gift we celebrate at Christmas, the gift of the Lord Jesus Christ. During this Advent season, we will be looking at several aspects of Christ’s saving work, all made possible by and necessitating his incarnation. We begin with Jesus as our redeemer. The theme of redemption runs throughout Scripture and it reminds us that before God saved us we were in bondage but now, having been bought with a price, we are free. We will consider both our bondage and our new freedom in Christ this morning.
