Passage: 1 Timothy 5:17-18
This morning, we come to the end of our four-week sermon series designed to help Mayer Community Church prepare for their next pastor. The main resource we’ve been using to help in this process is a new book by Christopher Ash entitled The Book Your Pastor Wishes You Would Read (But is Too Embarrassed to Ask). Our passage this morning calls for Christians to show honor to their elders, especially those who preach and teach. But what should this honor look like? There are certainly material ways we can honor our pastors, and submission to their leadership is another way to honor them. But have you considered that graciously and lovingly holding our pastors to a high standard also shows them honor? After all, their work is described as a “noble task.” Let’s consider how helping our pastors be the best they can be actually honors them.
